The Chaffee County Community Foundation (CCCF) has partnered with the Peak Health Alliance (PHA) is working to tackle the rising cost of health care and health insurance in Chaffee County. Health care costs across the nation, especially in rural and underserved areas, continue to rise at an alarming rate. In Colorado, total care costs have recently been estimated to be 19 percent above average costs nationally and in rural and mountain regions of the state inpatient and outpatient combined rates exceed over 500 percent of Medicare rates in some cases. In addition, Colorado’s Regions 8 & 9 which includes Lake and Chaffee counties have the highest health insurance costs in the country.

To move the needle in an incredibly complex system like health care and insurance, PHA has pioneered an innovative model of a consumer-led purchasing alliance in Summit County and has succeeded in offering higher-quality, lower cost insurance plans to Summit County residents and employers!
CCCF is convening and facilitating a similar playbook in Chaffee County with PHA leading the technical and negotiation role. But Chaffee is a different place than Summit, so our approach is being driven locally. Learn more by downloading the Frequently Asked Questions to the right!
