CCCF is honored to have partnered with many funders, companies, and philanthropists to have invested 3.5 million in the Upper Arkansas River community through grantmaking since 2018. Please review the awardees of the past grant cycles below.

2024 Fall Community grants
CCCF awarded $50,866 to 31 organizations. Read the press release for a full list of awardees here.
Applications open Monday, July 22 (you can create/update your user & organization profiles ahead of time!).
Application deadline is Friday, August 23 at 11:59 pm.
Reviews, site visits, and decisions will be conducted during August & September.
Grant Award notifications will be issued by late October.
Approved grants will be paid within 10 business days of a completed grant agreement.
PROCESS
CCCF has convened a Grant Review Committee comprised of 2 residents from each of the four counties eligible for grant funding in this cycle.
All applications will follow this process:
Initial staff screening to ensure completeness, CO Secretary of State Good Standing, nondiscrimination statement, review of financials and eligibility check.
Individual committee member review and ranking.
Applicants may be contacted for a ‘follow-up interview’ to discuss any questions that came up during the reviews. These interviews may be done remotely or in-person.
Review committee will convene a final work session to aggregate site visit information, rank, and other considerations such as program budget to make final funding recommendations and rationale.
All approved grants, upon the completion of a grant agreement, will receive funds via direct deposit.
ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS
This grant process has two funding options. Applicants can apply for one or both based on the eligibility criteria. Applicants will submit one application but can identify and address their impact in the outlined criteria even if it covers multiple areas of impact.
Option 1:
The SDCEA Grant Fund has $35,000 in funding available for organizations that meet the following criteria:
Serves the communities of Chaffee, Custer, Fremont and/or Lake Counties.
Organizations or projects with a focus of:
Community-based Health Programs: Such as Community Health Clinics, Substance Abuse Dependency, Prevention, and Treatment, Hot Lines and Crisis Intervention, Sexual Assault Services, Protection Against Abuse, Spouse/Child/Sexual Abuse
Support of Food, Shelter, and Human Services: Such as Food Programs/Food Banks/Food Pantries, Homeless Shelters, Temporary Housing, Children and Youth Services, Child Day Care, Family Services, Family Violence Shelters, Pregnancy Centers
Disaster Preparedness & Relief Services: Such as Search & Rescue, Fire Prevention, Safety Education, First Aid
Animal Protection & Welfare
Environmental and Historical Preservation: Effort to preserve and protect the natural environment for the benefit of the public and preservation of a historically important area or structure
Option 2:
CCCF Community Grants has $15,800 in funding available for organizations that meet the following criteria:
Serves the communities of Chaffee County
Organizations or projects with a focus of Community Health, Community Vitality, and Community Capacity
All applications must be 501c3, 501c4 or 501c6 (or under the fiscal sponsorship of an eligible organization)or a government entity in good standing with the IRS and State of Colorado to be eligible for funding. While there is no maximum award, the average grant awarded in 2023 was $1,600.
Applications that demonstrate the following factors will be most competitive:
Clearly defined activities that are meeting an identified community need
Measurable outcomes, outputs, and impacts for proposed programs and projects
Supporting data to help define the organization's impact and need
Applicants are encouraged to review the grant application questions and the grant rubric to create a competitive grant application.
Funds must be expended and final reports on the project or program impact submitted by October 31, 2025.
Reporting Requirements: Organizations with outstanding grant reports will not be considered for funding opportunities. Receipt of any past due grant report by CCCF is required before the organization will be considered for a community grant.
2024 Impact Grants
Grant Receipents:
CCCF awarded $50,000 in funds to 4 organizations for projects focused on housing solutions and environmental innovation.

Housing solutions Grant
The Housing Solutions Grant (between $10,000 and $35,000) will be awarded to one or more applications for a project or program focused on affordable housing solutions making long-term, sustainable housing accessible to Chaffee County residents. The ideal project will include documented approaches that will facilitate measurable change on housing accessibility in Chaffee County. Strong applications will clearly describe the needs being addressed, approach to address the needs, activities, outputs, and outcomes of the project or program. Applicants can apply for an existing project or program, but should be able to clearly describe how the housing solutions grant will increase the impact. Public/private partnerships are encouraged to apply, but the applicant must be a 501c3.
Funds must be expended and final reports on the project or program impact submitted by August 1, 2025.
The Housing Solutions Grant is funded by generous contributions to CCCF’s Housing Solutions Fund.
Environmental Innovation Grant
The Environmental Innovation Grant (Up to $15,000) will be awarded to one or more applicants for an innovative project or program focused on clean water, environmental stewardship, and recycling or waste reduction efforts. The ideal project will include documented approaches that will facilitate measurable change on the environment across Chaffee County. Strong applications will clearly describe the needs being addressed, approach to addressing the needs, activities, outputs and outcomes of the project or program. Applicants can apply for an existing project or program, but should be able to clearly describe how the innovation grant will increase the impact. Public/private partnerships are encouraged to apply, but the applicant must be a 501c3.
Funds must be expended and final reports on the project or program impact submitted by August 1, 2025.
The Environmental Innovation Grant is funded by partnership with Bonfire Entertainment’s contribution from the Renewal Festival and generous contributions to the CCCF’s Environmental Solutions Fund.

The committee may assign applicants to a “site visit” if follow up questions or clarifications are needed to fully evaluate the grant request. Site visits may take the form of a phone call, email or in-person meeting depending on the nature of the questions.
Review committee will convene a final work session to aggregate site visit information, rank, and other considerations to make final funding recommendations and rationale.
It is expected that 1-2 applicants may be funded for Housing and 1 applicant will be funded for Environment.
All approved grants, upon the completion of a grant agreement, will receive funds via direct deposit.
2024 spring grants
Grant Recipients:
CCCF awarded 33 local nonprofit organizations with $146,686 in funding from the Spring grant cycle, which was open January 8 through February 9, 2024. These grants are made possible through a partnership with the City of Salida and Town of Buena Vista.

The Spring Municipal Grant Process has a total of $146,686 available for competitive grant funding which includes $56,640 for organizations serving the Buena Vista Community and $90,046 for those serving the Salida Community.
Applications that demonstrate the following factors will be most competitive:
Clearly defined activities that are meeting an identified community need
Measurable outcomes, outputs, and impacts for proposed programs and projects
Supporting data to help define the organization's impact and need
Applications are encouraged to review the Application Questions and the Community Grants Rubric prior to starting the application. If there are any questions, please reach out to Anna Hendricks at anna@chaffeecommunity.org.
Type of Organization: All applications must be 501c3, 501c4 or 501c6 (or under the fiscal sponsorship of an eligible organization) in good standing with the IRS and State of Colorado to be eligible for funding. While there is no maximum award, the average grant award is expected to be $3,000.
Operating Support: All 501c3 non-profit organization serving Buena Vista & Salida (50%+ populations served located within one or both municipalities) will be applying for operating support. Applicants are welcome to highlight specific programs in their request, however if awarded the funds will be unrestricted.
Project Support: Faith-based organizations, regional organizations (those with 50%+ populations served located outside of Buena Vista or Salida), nonprofit organizations holding a 501c4 or 501c6 designation, and government agencies are invited to apply for project support. If awarded, the funds will be restricted to the charitable project described in the application.
Reporting Requirements: Any organization that received funding from the Spring Municipal Grant Process in 2023 are required to have submitted a grant report before being considered for 2024 funding. Reports must be received by February 9, 2024 to be eligible. Organizations who fail to do this will not be considered for funding.
2024 First Responder Grants
2024 First Responder Grant funds have been fully expended.
Timeline/Process: Contributions designated to the SDCEA First Responders Support Program are intended to provide grants as follows:
$1,000 Grants available on a rolling basis for entities meeting the eligibility criteria. Grant portal applications will open January 8, 2024.
First come, first served until funds are exhausted (total amount available: $5,000 in 2024)
Applicants apply through the CCCF grant portal for consideration and are screened by CCCF staff for eligibility.
Upon final approval, payment will be processed within 30 days of receiving a signed grant agreement.
Appeals or rare circumstances will be forwarded to the grants committee to vote on.
Eligibility Criteria:
Registered 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6), faith-based and government organizations providing first responder services in Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, Lake and/or Saguache counties are eligible to apply for up to $1,000 per calendar year to support their first responder programs.
In compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations that govern the use of funds from private foundations to the Grantee organization.
All applicants must meet the following criteria:
Applicant must actively provide first responder services in the approved geographic areas. First responder services may include fire, medical, police, search & rescue, or other service for whom the provider is among those responsible for going immediately to the scene of an accident or emergency to provide assistance.
Requests must be for materials, training, gear, or other expenses directly related to providing first responder services in the target geographic areas.
Funds must be used within one year of receipt.
Requests should outline specific use of the funds. Awards will be restricted grants for the purposes outlined in the application.
Grant Exclusions: Grants are subject to the following exclusions:
Political organizations or social clubs
Any organization deemed to be working against the interests of the donor
Any organization deemed to have a conflict of interest with the donor
Any organization that prohibits people from serving on staff, volunteering or receiving services based on their religion
Reporting Requirements: Grant report due 1 year after funds are awarded. Grant report will outline how grants funds were utilized.
2023 First Responder Grants

CCCF awarded 6 first responder organizations with $5,000 in funding from the 2023 grant funds. These grants are made possible through a partnership with the Sangre de Cristo Electric Association.

2023 Impact Grants
grant recipients:
The 2023 Impact Grant Award recipients are:
Chaffee Housing Trust: $25,000
Chaffee Housing Trust will use the award to support construction of six new homes at the M&3rd Project and administer housing counseling services including assistance to clean up or repair their credit history, create a household budget and action plan, and apply for mortgage financing in hopes of future homeownership.
Chaffee Hospitality: $10,000
Chaffee Hospitality will use the award for emergency motel stays for adults without children in our community, believing that emergency stays are essential for the physical and mental health of an important percentage of residents within our county. The organization works in partnership with Chaffee Housing Authority and Chaffee Health and Human Services to secure sustainable housing for individuals using the shelter.
Greater Arkansas River Nature Association: $16,000
GARNA will use the funds to strengthen its statewide waste diversion goals, aimed to more than double the state’s current recycling rate to 45 percent by 2036 including oversight at Festivals and events and training and education programs.

CCCF awarded 39 local nonprofit organizations with $154,078 in funding from the Spring Municipal Grants Cycle. The average award size for each nonprofit was approximately $3,950. For this cycle, CCCF partnered with the Town of Buena Vista and the City of Salida to administer their community grants programs. 2022 Fall Grants
CCF awarded 28 local nonprofit organizations with $42,155 in funding from our Fall Grants Cycle. The average award size for each nonprofit was approximately $1,500.
For this cycle, we partnered with Sangre de Cristo Electric Association to administer $25,000 in funding to nonprofits from Lake, Chaffee, Fremont, and Custer Counties. An additional $18,755 was awarded to Chaffee County nonprofits from the CCCF Community Grants Fund, which is supported by donations from local businesses, individual donors, and BlueTriton Brands.

2022 Municipal Grants
Nonprofit organizations serving the Salida & Buena Vista communities were invited to apply to the Municipal Community Grants Program. In partnership with the City of Salida and Town of Buena Vista $135,563 was available for funding, and 34 nonprofit organizations received support!
